A quality education comes from high quality faculty. Of
the 122 full-time faculty members, 83 have doctoral degrees. Many are
entrepreneurs, who have started businesses in the field they teach. In fact,
faculty members average seven years practical experience in their field before
joining our faculty.
With a low student-to-faculty ratio (12:1), faculty
members have the time to provide students individual attention. Faculty (and
staff) take part in the freshman mentoring program to help new students adjust to the
rigors of MSOE as well as being away from home for the first time. This
mentoring isn't available at many larger universities where classes are taught
by graduate students or teaching assistants (which MSOE doesn't use.) All
classes are taught by professors.
The environment for MSOE faculty is much different than
that of most universities. Primary value is placed on teaching and faculty are
here because they want to teach above all else.
At MSOE, being a professor is more than a career, it's a
lifestyle.
