Dr. John A. Mellowes
Dr. John A. Mellowes, chairman and CEO of Charter
Manufacturing Co., was elected chairman of the MSOE Board of Regents in 2007,
and has served as an MSOE Regent since 1992.
Mellowes' grandfather founded Charter Manufacturing,
based in Mequon, Wis. Since becoming chairman and CEO, John Mellowes has grown
the company's interest in steel. Mellowes built one of the few new steel plants
in the United States in the past 25 years, and it is now the largest portion of
the company's business. Charter Manufacturing was 13th in the 2008 Wisconsin 75
List, an annual ranking by the accounting firm Deloitte & Touche of the
largest closely held companies in the state.
He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell
University, Ithaca, N.Y., and served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Mellowes
serves on the boards of several local and national companies, and is a member
of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, Greater Milwaukee
Committee, The Executive Committee and World Presidents' Organization.

received an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from MSOE in 2001.
