Software Engineering SDL
Posted 03/18/2008
There are several unique aspects about the Software Engineering Program at MSOE, but one of them happens to be the Software Development Laboratory (SDL). The SDL was inspired by Moore's Real World Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology and is structured to provide students with "real world" experience is Software Development. The SDL is designed to emulate world-class software development organizations.
The students in teams of 3-5 work independently on client (both external and internal) projects for one academic year (three quarters) while the instructors act as coaches and managers. One of the projects that the SDL students worked on is a "Blast furnace Simulation Model" which is currently deployed at the Grohmann Museum. It is an interactive and educational simulation modeled after an 1850s era Blast furnace.
Whenever you visit MSOE next, make sure to visit the Grohmann Museum and interact with the software.
