B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology

The Field

Those with mechanical engineering technology (MET) degrees are real hands-on people. They work with manufacturing and machinery - and people - and have the skills to manage them all. They also have the skills to devise ways to adapt machinery, such as redevelop a supply line for a new product.

With such a practical approach and a strong understanding of applying engineering concepts, they have careers in:

  • plant operations and management
  • power generation
  • quality assurance
  • product and manufacturing systems design
  • testing and evaluation
  • utilities
  • technical sales
  • environmental testing and enforcement

The Program

MSOE's program is designed to accommodate transfer students, especially those with associate degrees in mechanical design and related fields. The program is offered in the evenings only, and is designed for working, part-time students.

Typically, students will enroll for two classes per quarter. The classes shown in the curriculum track are paired so that the required courses can be taken on the same nights of the week.

The curriculum introduces technical courses at an early stage. Mathematics and science courses are integrated into the curriculum as they are applied in the technical courses. General studies courses are spread throughout the curriculum. With this arrangement of courses, part-time students experience a continuous blend of technical and support classes throughout the program. Two technical electives and one free elective allow students to focus on an area of interest; however, the program is designed to produce well-rounded graduates who are competent in all areas of mechanical engineering technology.

Transfer agreements with many of Wisconsin's technical colleges allow for transfer of as many credits as possible. Contact an admissions counselor or the program director for more information on transfer credits.

The MSOE Advantage

MSOE is convenient:

  • Evening classes
  • Schedules designed with working adults in mind
  • Transfer-friendly for students with associate degrees
  • A great option for working students to complete an accredited B.S. degree

We place a strong emphasis on design, applications and hands-on laboratory experimentation. The laboratory is the place to grasp classroom theory. How can you best learn something? By doing it.

MSOE also has a strong relationship with local industry. For students, this equates into ideas for design projects and industry internships or employment. We prepare graduates for successful immediate entry into industry, as well as for graduate school.

The Results

100% of MSOE's mechanical engineering technology students last year found employment with an average starting salary of $55,300.

Now they have careers in great companies, including:

  • Milwaukee Forge
  • Dana Sealing Products
  • Ladish Corp.
  • Dowco Inc.
