New Borrowers: Complete the Federal Perkins Loan Process

  • Complete the Entrance Counseling Online
All first time MSOE Perkins loan recipients are required to complete entrance counseling prior to receiving funds. During the entrance counseling you will learn, among other things, that the Perkins loan is a limited fund, need-based federal student loans. The interest rate is 5 percent and no interest accrues while the student is enrolled at least half-time. There is a grace period of nine months prior to entering repayment and borrowing limits are determined by the U.S. Department of Education. Please complete your Perkins Entrance Counseling online.
  • Sign The Perkins Master Promissory Note
The promissory note will be mailed to you from MSOE a few weeks prior to the start of the term. The envelope will be stamped "Important Loan Documents." Please complete it in its entirety and immediately return it to MSOE.

NOTE: If you have not received your promissory note in the mail once the term has begun, please visit the Financial Aid Office to complete the process.

Previous Borrowers

  • If you received a Perkins Loan previously, and have completed your entrance counseling and MPN, you are NOT required to complete anything. Your Perkins Loan funds will automatically be applied to your account in the amount indicated on your Award Offer.
