Chapter 35 Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service related condition. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits.

How do I apply for Chapter 35 Survivors' & Dependents' Educational Assistance Benefits?
- Complete VA Form 22-5490, Application for Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance can be obtained from MSOE's Financial Aid Office in CC-431, can be downloaded from the DVA GI Bill Web site, or you can complete it online at the DVA Veterans Online Application Web site.
OR
If you have previously received VA educational benefits, you will need to complete VA Form 22-5495, Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Form.
- Submit a copy of veterans' DD-214 to the from MSOE's Financial Aid Office in CC-431.
- If a dependent of the veteran, submit a birth certificate.
OR
If a spouse of the dependent, submit a marriage certificate.
- Complete and submit MSOE's Veteran's Education Benefits worksheet which is available for download and printing or a copy may be picked up in the MSOE Financial Aid Office. This must be done every academic year if you wish to have us certify your benefits for the year.
- Complete and submit a Department of Veteran Affairs' Veteran Information Worksheet which is available for download and printing or a copy may be picked up in MSOE's Financial Aid Office. This must be done once at the beginning of your academic career at MSOE if you wish to have us certify your benefits for the year and anytime after that you change benefits or credit load.
