Milwaukee, Wis,.--MSOE men's soccer senior forward Spencer Cook (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) was named as a second team selection to the ESPN The Magazine CoSida Academic All-America team.


To make the final list of 96 men's soccer candidates, Cook was a selection to the ESPN The Magazine CoSida District V Academic All-District First-Team.

In order to be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average for his career. The College Division is comprised of all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA teams.

Cook, a 3.93 architectural engineering major and team captain, finished the season for the 8-8-1 Raiders as the team's leader in goals (9), points (22), assists (4) and game winning goals (3). He started in all 17 games this season. Earlier this month, he was named to the Northern Athletics Conference second team, chosen by the conference coaches.

Cook now joins eight other MSOE athletes who have received the CoSida Academic All-America honors, the most recent being Brian Soik, a hockey forward who received the men's at-large award in May of 2007.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large and women's at-large.

MSOE offers 21 men's and women's intercollegiate sports. The Raiders compete at the NCAA Division III level and are members of the Northern Athletics Conference while also fielding teams in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association and the Northern Wrestling Association.
