Rowing Raiders Take Two Into Dad Vail Grand Finals
Philadelphia, Penn. - Many veteran rowers from the nation's best rowing schools took notice of the MSOE crew as they placed two teams into the grand finals of the one of most prestigious rowing events in the nation, the Dad Vail regatta.
In the novice lightweight 8 division, the Raiders finished second in the five boat final, behind Delaware but ahead of last year's defending champion Georgia Tech, who finished in third. St. Joseph's College and Ohio State rounded out the field. The Raiders lightweight boat was the first in 15 years to medal in their inaugural year.
MSOE's novice heavyweight 8, originally ranked 11th, pulled yet another upset on its way to becoming the only program in the past 15 years to make the Grand Finals of the novice heavyweight 8 in their inaugural year. While Delaware defeated the University of San Diego for the gold, MSOE placed fourth behind third ranked Georgia Tech. Grand Valley (7th seed) and Marietta (10th seed) rounded out the finals in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
The Raiders next travel to the IRA National Championships on June 5th-8th with a frosh/novice heavyweight 4.
