Vande Boom Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team

Junior Joel Vande Boom (Port Washington, WI/Port Washington) of the MSOE wresting team was selected to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA District V Academic All-District Men's At-Large First Team. Vande Boom is an Architectural Engineering and Construction Management major with a 3.99 grade point average. He now moves on in consideration for the National Academic All-America team, which will be announced later this month.
Vande Boom was also named Academic All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association earlier in the school year. He finished second at the Northern Wrestling Association tournament in the 157-lb weight class.
In order to be nominated for this honor, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. An athlete is not eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible). In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large and women's at-large.
The College Division District V team is comprised of all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA teams in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
