DeLany Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team

Heather DeLany (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) of the MSOE cross country and track and field team was selected to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA District V Academic Cross Country and Track and Field Second Team. DeLany is an Architectural Engineering major with a 3.89 grade point average.

DeLaney was named All-Conference four times (Lake Michigan Conference 2004, 2005; Association of Division III Independents 2006; Northern Athletics Conference 2007) in cross country. She also holds six MSOE indoor track records (200m, 400m, 800m, mile run, high jump, long jump) and the 400m hurdles outdoor record.  At the 2008 NAC outdoor track championships, DeLany broke conference records in the 800m run and high jump earning All-NAC honors. DeLany, who has completed her four years of cross country eligibility, will compete in her fourth year of indoor and outdoor track & field next year as she completes her fifth year of studies.

In order to be nominated for this honor, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. An athlete is not eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible). In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large and women's at-large.

The College Division District V team is comprised of all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA teams in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
