Men's Soccer Victorious at Lakeland College 7v7 Tournament
The MSOE Men's Soccer team entered two teams in the Lakeland College 7v7 Tournament on April 27. In a field of tough competition that included twenty four teams from Whitewater, St. Norbert's, Ripon, Oshkosh, Marian and Lakeland, the MSOE teams came out victorious. The MSOE Red team won the tournament by defeating one of the UW-Whitewater teams in the championship game with a score of 4-3. The Red team had a number of offensive threats, 2007 captain Spencer Cook had five goals on the day, and Freshman Krstan Malusic added six for the team. MSOE Red depended on strong performances throughout the day by Junior goalkeeper Andy Blau. The MSOE White team, led by the 2008 team captain John Varebrook's 12 goals on the day, made it to the quarter-finals but came up short in a 2-1 loss versus St. Norbert's. Varebrook had two games with three or more goals scored for the Raiders. With the success in this tournament, MSOE will look forward to the 2008 season. The team will be returning sixteen of its nineteen players, and has a strong incoming freshman class to build with, so there is success on the minds of the players.
