Banks, Men's Soccer net first win over Edgewood in a decade

Madison, Wis.--In Jimmy Banks nine years as head coach of the MSOE men's soccer program, Edgewood has always given him problems and finally, he crossed that hurdle. On Tuesday, September 30, the Raiders defeated the Edgewood Eagles 2-1 on the road in Madison, Wis.

In the 78th minute of play, John Varebrook scored the second and game winning goal as the Raiders defeated the Eagles for the first time in Bank's career and only the second time in MSOE's 14 prior meetings with Edgewood.

The first Raider goal came off a Josh Payne shot, just nine minutes into the game. Edgewood answered with a goal at the 49 minute mark, tying the game.  The final tally for the game was the Varebrook shot that sealed the victory for the Raiders.

Andy Blau started the game and went 57 minutes in goal for the Raiders, giving up one goal and collecting four saves.  Alex Mejac completed the game in the net for the Raiders and was untested the rest of the way.
