Men's Basketball finishes 2008 with victory

Box Score

Dallas, Texas--The MSOE men's basketball team ended their Texas rod trip with a decisive 89-76 victory over the University of Dallas Crusaders. The Raiders had all five starters in double digits with Bennett Deacon leading all Raiders scoring 21 points in the game. The University of Dallas was led by junior guard Jim Norton, scoring 28 points in the Crusader loss.

Although the Raiders were up by four points at halftime, the Crusaders went on two small runs early in the second period. University of Dallas' biggest lead in the second half came off a 12-2 run giving them a 53-47 lead with 13 minutes remaining.  In the next five minutes of play, MSOE went on a 25-4 run of their own, capped off by a Jamel Sabree jumper with 5:17 left in the game.  The Raiders never looked back as the Crusaders could not get any closer than a seven point deficit, and MSOE finished the game with a 13-point victory over host UD.

The Raiders shot an astounding 62.7% of their field goals, their second best output of the season. Deacon, Matt Morgan and Austin Kearns each had a pair of three point field goals in the Raider's 8-for-16 shooting from three point range. Both teams also shot well from the free throw line with UD shooting 94.4% and MSOE shooting 88.9% from the charity stripe. The Crusaders had their best shooting performance of the year, hitting 50% of their shots from the field and 42.1% from beyond the arc, only to watch the Raiders overcome the effort.

MSOE returns to action at home on January 3, 2009 facing the Maroons of the University of Chicago. Tipoff is slated for 4:15p.m.
