Women's Tennis tabbed fourth in NAC Poll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - A program which surprised everyone last year, the MSOE women's tennis team received one first place vote and ended up fourth in the Northern Athletic Conference preseason standings. MSOE finished the 2008 campaign with a 7-7 overall record.

Edgewood College is the coaches' pick to win the 2009 NAC women's tennis title, according to the preseason poll. Edgewood, winner of last year's NAC championship, tallied 10 of 12 first
place votes for 142 poll points.

Concordia University Wisconsin (9-7, 8-2 NAC), who won the prior two NAC championships, was picked second with 124 points and a first place vote. Aurora (8-4, 9-1) was picked third with 119 points, while MSOE (7-7, 7-3) was fourth with 96 points and the remaining first place vote.

Marian University (8-7, 6-4) was fifth with 94 points, Benedictine University (4-6, 5-5) sixth with 82, and Wisconsin Lutheran College (4-10, 4-6) seventh with 75 points.

Dominican University (4-9, 3-7) was selected eighth, Concordia University
Chicago (3-11, 2-8) ninth, and Rockford College (1-10, 1-9) tenth. Lakeland
College (0-9, 0-10) was picked 11th while Alverno College, beginning its
first season of the sport, was picked 12th.

The NAC championship takes place October 3 and 4 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium
in Madison, Wis. The NAC champion is the conference's automatic qualifier to
the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in the spring.
