MSOE Wrestling's Pope gains preseason honors
 MSOE wrestler Virgil Pope (Janesville, Wis./Clinton) has made the National Wrestling Coaches Association preseason poll, announced on Oct 27, 2009. Pope, an NCAA participant in the 141 pound weight class a year ago, is ranked eighth in the national poll, conducted by NCAA Division III wrestling coaches from across the nation.

 

Last Year, Pope placed third at the Great Lakes Regional and received a wild card bid to the NCAA Tournament. He was also the crowned champion at the Northern Wrestling Association Tournament.

Also receiving national recognition was Matt Olsen (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) who made the list of "contenders" in the 184 pound weight class.

Pope Olsen and the Raiders open their season on November 7, in Sheboygan, Wis. at the Lakeland Duals.
