Men's Track finishes 2nd at NAC Championships, Women's team 4th

The MSOE Men's Track team finished in second place with 186 points at the NAC Outdoor Championships this weekend in Milwaukee. The Women's squad came in fourth with 113 points. Freshman Jordan Werner was named Male Freshman Athlete of the Meet for his performances at the two-day event. Werner won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45 and the 200-meter dash at 22.42. Freshman Chris Neja was fifth in the 200.
Sophomore Emily Dieringer won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.93 and the 100-meter hurdles at 15.97. Dieringer also won the pole vault at 3.05 meters. Sophomore Amanda Heller was first in the 10000-meter run and second in both the 5000-meter run and the 3000-meter steeplechase. Freshman Katelyn Herrmann was third in the steeplechase. Sophomore Carol Cayo finished third in the 400-meter hurdles and tied for sixth in the high jump with freshman Karly Nehls who was second in the triple jump.
Senior Zak Lutz won the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9:56.67 and finished second in the 5000-meter run. Sophomore Mark Van Alstyne finished third in the 800-meter run. Freshman Ben Peterson was sixth in the 1500-meter run. Junior Matt Jungers came in fourth in the 10000-meter run. Sophomore Tim Lang and junior Eric Hein were fifth and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles event. Freshman James Franke and Hein came in fourth and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Men's 4X400 meter relay team comprised of Werner, Franke, Neja and Van Alstyne won with a time of 3:22.77 and the 4X100-meter relay team finished third. Junior Alex Raver and Joe Klimowiczs tied for fifth in the high jump.
Sophomore Todd Krupa won the pole vault at 4.20 meters. Junior Eric Doubet was fourth in that event. Sophomore Arthur Weborg won both the long jump at 6.97 meters and the triple jump at 13.74 meters. Raver was fifth in that event. Junior Brent Verhyen was third and junior Kevin Diederich fourth in the shot put. Diederich was third and Verhyen fourth in the discus throw. Junior Michael Jasperson was second and Verhyen fourth in the hammer throw. Diederich finished third in the javelin throw.
The women's 4X100-meter relay finished fifth and the 4X400-meter relay squad was sixth. Freshman Kathleen Keough was fourth in the pole vault. Senior Kelly Costello came in sixth in the shot put. Costello's basketball teammate sophomore Marguerite Wellstein was fourth in the javelin throw and seventh in the discus throw. Both teams will compete at North Central College this Thursday, May 13 and Friday, May 14 in Naperville, Ill.
