Men's Tennis season recap

The MSOE men's tennis team won its first Northern Athletics Conference Championship in 2010 and participated in the NCAA Tournament in May. The Raiders won four titles at the NAC Championship as they gathered 54 points at the two-day event in New Berlin, Wis.

Junior Mark Schadler (Walton, Ky./Simon Kenton) won the number five singles championship by the score of 6-0, 6-2 in the final match. Senior Fabian Griebel (Hamburg, Germany/Ammersbeck) took home the number six singles title. Griebel won the final match 6-2, 6-1. Junior Dustin Holzhauer (Milwaukee, Wis./Thomas More) and freshman Zach Weaver (Orlando, Fla./Fremont) combined to take the crown at number one doubles. They won the championship match 8-5. Senior Andrew Ohland (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa East) and Schadler won the number three doubles championship by the same score in their last match.

Holzhauer finished second at number one singles and Weaver came in second at number three singles while Ohland was also second at number four singles. Sophomore Juan Montenegro (San Jose, Costa Rica/Calasanz) placed third at number two singles at the event. Montenegro and junior Grant Lees (Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego) finished third in number two doubles action.

During the regular season, MSOE went undefeated during conference action as they gathered an 8-0 record in those matches. The Raiders finished the season with a 10-6 overall record.

The team of Holzhauer and Weaver went 9-1 during the season with a 5-0 regular season NAC record. Ohland and Schadler combined to go 10-4 during the 2010 season and 6-0 during the conference regular season. Schadler, Ohland and Montenegro all logged a 7-1 NAC record in singles action while Weaver went 6-1. Griebel finished the season on a seven match winning streak. Sophomore Jeff Scarpelli (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) went 5-2 during the regular season for the Raiders.
