MSOE men's and women's soccer picked to finish fifth in NAC

Both the MSOE men's and women's soccer teams were picked to finish fifth in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) preseason polls. Last season, the men's team lost in the NAC championship to this year's NAC favorite and 2009 national semifinalist, Dominican. The women's squad finished fifth in the NAC last year. Aurora was picked to win the conference on the women's side. The soccer head coaches from the NAC voted in the poll.

The MSOE men's team had a record of 13-6-2 overall and 9-1-1 in the NAC last season. The Raiders returnees include defending NAC Defensive Player of the Year senior Joe Westrich (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's). They start their 2010 campaign in Michigan against 2009 national runner-up Calvin Sept. 3.

Last year, the women's team finished 10-8-3 overall and 7-3-1 in conference action. MSOE's roster is full of experience with six seniors and seven juniors on the team. The Raiders begin their season Sept. 1 against Carroll at Uihlein Soccer Park. Both teams open their NAC schedule Sept. 11 against Rockford, also at Uihlein Soccer Park. The women play at 1:00 p.m. and the men start at 3:30 p.m. The winner of the NAC tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
