MSOE men's basketball to face UWM in exhibition game

MILWAUKEE -- For the third straight season, the MSOE men's basketball team will open up their season against a cross-town NCAA Division I opponent. The Raiders will face the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at the Klotsche Center Monday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The Klotsche Center is located on the campus of UWM. Last year, MSOE played Marquette University at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Two seasons ago, the Raiders played UWM at the U.S. Cellular Arena, also in downtown Milwaukee.

"I think the biggest thing it does for your program is that it's a recruiting tool," said MSOE head coach Brian Miller. "It's something that gets your players and their parents fired up. It's excitement for the program."

Miller returns for his seventh season at the helm for MSOE and looks to continue his unprecedented success. The Raiders have recorded the five best records in school history during the past five seasons. MSOE is 85-48 over that span with a remarkable winning percentage of 64%.

MSOE returns senior Austin Meier who was an ESPN Academic All-American and an All-NAC First Team selection last season. The Raiders finished the 2009-10 season with a overall record of 17-9 and were 10-6 in NAC play. Also last year, MSOE advanced to the semifinals of the NAC Tournament.

In their first meeting in 2008, MSOE kept it close against UWM for much of the game. The Raiders were within single digits well into the second half before the Panthers outdistanced the Raiders 68-43 in the preseason tune up.

The Raiders will begin the regular season when they host the All-Engineers Classic at the Kern Center. MSOE will play Caltech Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. The other pairing consists of the Merchant Marine Academy and Carnegie Mellon. The consolation and championship games for the tournament will take place Sunday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
