Freshman Michael Thompson scored twice as the Raiders beat Northland 5-2 Friday night at the Kern Center. The Lumberjacks logged the only goal of the first period. MSOE tied the game at the 3:04 mark of the second period when freshman Ben Lauder scored an even strength goal assisted by freshmen Steven Shaffroth and Kevin Medina.
The Raiders took the lead on the first of two power plays goals from Thompson. That goal was assisted by sophomore captain Bradley Tierney and freshman West Bauman. Just over two minutes later, Thompson scored again in a power play situation. The goal was again assisted by Tierney and Bauman.
After Northland pulled within one late in the second period, junior Todd Krupa netted a goal to extend the MSOE lead back to two. Krupa's goal was assisted by sophomore Mike Pao and senior Michael Soik. Sophomore Jordan Keizer finished the scoring with an empty netter with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Junior goaltender Connor Toomey made 19 saves for the Raiders.
MSOE (3-0, 3-0 MCHA) hosts the Lumberjacks again Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Kern Center.
