Lauder's OT goal beats St. Thomas

Freshman forward Ben Lauder tipped in the game-winning goal at the 1:53 mark of overtime as the No. 8 Raiders defeated St. Thomas 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center. Lauder's goal was set up by freshman Kevin Medina. The victory was MSOE head coach Mark Ostapina's 200th in his coaching career.

The game was back and forth with no teams gaining more than a one-goal lead at any point. Freshman defenseman Michael Thompson scored just after a power play ended in the third period to tie the game at 4. Thompson's goal was assisted by sophomores Jordan Keizer and Bradley Tierney.

The second period was full of offense with MSOE getting goals from Keizer and junior Todd Krupa. Keizer's goal was from Thompson and Krupa's goal was set up by freshman West Bauman and sophomore Mike Pao. Krupa tied the game at 1 with 33 seconds left in the first period with a power play goal from senior Aaron Humphries and Thompson.

The Raiders (9-1) are off until Saturday, Jan. 1 when they play Hamline in Saint Paul, Minn.
