Jasperson breaks MSOE record in hammer throw at Drake

It was a busy weekend for MSOE track and field as some of the team's athletes headed to Des Moines, Iowa to take part in the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake. At that meet, the Raiders competed against all levels of NCAA athletes on Saturday.
Senior Michael Jasperson placed sixth with a mark of 52.29 meters in the hammer throw. That toss broke Jasperson's own school record in that event. Senior Kevin Diederich placed fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles at 15.16 seconds. Sophomore Jordan Werner finished fourth in the 200-meter dash at 22.24 seconds. MSOE's 4x100 meter relay team of Werner, sophomore Chris Neja, freshman Matt Waech and junior Mark Van Alystyne came in fourth with a time of 43.63 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay squad of those same runners was third at 3:20.41.
MSOE also took part in Warriors Relays which were pushed back a day to Sunday because of weather. The men's squad placed third while the women came in fourth.
Senior Brent Verhyen took the top spot in the shot put at 12.77 meters and the discus throw at 39.06 meters. Verhyen was second in the hammer throw at 44.22 meters. Junior Joe Klimowicz won the high jump event at 1.73 meters. Freshman Mike Cosentino finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.7 meters and also was second in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:02.12. MSOE's distance medley placed first with a time of 11:08.18. Also, the Raiders' 800-meter sprint medley came in first at 1:43.31.
Junior Emily Dieringer was first in the pole vault at 2.8 meters. Also, she also took the top position in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.21 seconds. Dieringer was a little over a second off the MSOE record in the 200-meter dash as she placed fifth with a time of 26.82 seconds. Freshman Sheena Reed came in second in the shot put at 11.02 meters. Freshman Shana Cook (32.65 meters) and freshman Melody Scrivvano (32.49 meters) placed fourth and fifth in the hammer throw. Scrivvano was also fifth in the discus throw at 30.79 meters while Cook was second in the javelin throw at 30.76 meters.
The Raiders are back in action at the Wisconsin Private College Outdoor Championship in Milwaukee Saturday, April 30.
