Raiders breeze past Finlandia 8-1

The No. 14 MSOE hockey team knocked off Finlandia 8-1 Friday at the Kern Center in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association matchup. Juniors Jordan Keizer and Mike Pao and freshman Cole Gibson each scored twice as the Raiders moved to 3-0 on the year. Senior goaltender Connor Toomey made 17 saves to record his 45th career victory at MSOE which ties the school record held by Matt Burzon.

Jordan Keizer recorded two short-handed goals and Pao found the back of the net in the first period. After the Lions netted their lone goal of the game early in the second period, MSOE outscored Finlandia 5-0 the rest of the way. Pao again scored for the Raiders' only goal in the second frame.

In the third period, junior Bradley Tierney got the scoring going at the 1:38 mark with his third goal of the season. A little over two minutes later, Gibson recorded his first of two goals in the period. MSOE's first power play goal of the night came at the 7:15 mark from senior Todd Krupa. Gibson also had a goal with a man advantage with just over a minute left in the game. Tierney also had three assists while Krupa, Jordan Keizer and sophomore Steven Shaffroth each had two assists on the night.

The Raiders will face the Lions again Saturday at 2 p.m. in Milwaukee.
