Three wrestlers tabbed as NWCA Scholar All-Americans, MSOE wrestling named as a NWCA Scholar Team


MILWAUKEE - Seniors Virgil Pope (Janesville, Wis./Clinton) and Samuel Bramstedt (Howards Grove, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) and junior Jake Narveson (Chatfield, Minn./Chosen Valley) have been named National Wrestling Collegiate Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans. Also, the MSOE wrestling team earned a nod as a NWCA Scholar Team. The Raiders' team GPA is 3.237. The team GPA is calculated as an average of the top ten students on each team. At least six of the ten athletes chosen must have competed in the NCAA qualifying tournament and the other athletes must have competed in at least 50% of the team's scheduled contests.

Pope is a construction management major who wrestled at 157 pounds this past season. He ended the season with a record of 32-13 after placing sixth at the Division III Great Lakes Regional. Pope competed in the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships and placed second at this year's Northern Wrestling Association conference tournament.

Samuel Bramstedt


Bramstedt is a mechanical engineering major who competed at the 165-pound weight class and garnered a record of 22-11 during the 2010-11 season. He placed third at the NWA conference tournament.

Jake Narveson


Narveson majors in mechanical engineering and qualified for this year's Division III Championships at 141 pounds. He earned an at-large bid after placing fourth at the regional. Narveson ended the season with a 38-12 record and also finished first at the NWA conference tournament where MSOE placed second as a team. The Raiders went 9-2 during duals this season.
