Cayo named to Capital One Academic All-America Second Team

MILWAUKEE - Junior center Carol Cayo (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) has been named to the Capital One Women's Basketball College Division Academic All-America Second Team. Cayo is an industrial engineering major and holds a 3.97 grade point average. The award is selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom. The College Division includes all colleges and universities that are NCAA Division II, Division III or NAIA institutions. Last season, Cayo was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.
Cayo recently broke the MSOE record for rebounds in a career as she surpassed the mark set by Catherine Chappell. She has 872 rebounds in her three years as a Raider. Cayo owns the school record for blocks in a career (239) as well. Also this season, Cayo became the seventh player in the history of the MSOE women's basketball program to hit the 1,000-point plateau. She is currently sixth all-time in scoring in school history with 1,114 points.
Cayo already owns the all-time NAC record for career rebounds and blocked shots and led the NAC in rebounding and blocks during this season. She completed the season leading the Raiders in scoring (16.7), rebounding (11.2), field goals (152), field-goal percentage (46.6%), free throws (128), steals (52) and blocks (74). In all of Division III, Cayo is 27th in blocks, 29th in rebounds and 33rd in double-doubles. She recorded 13 double-doubles during the 2010-11 season for third straight year. She was named First Team All-Northern Athletics Conference last season and NAC Freshman of the Year during the 2008-09 season.
In the quarterfinals of the NAC Tournament, Cayo and the Raiders fell to top seed Wisconsin Lutheran 76-55. They completed the season 5-12 in the Northern Athletic Conference South Division and 8-18 overall.
