Meier named NAC Player of the Year; Cording, Deacon earn NAC honors


MILWAUKEE - Senior forward Austin Meier (Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West) has been named Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Year for his performance during the 2010-11 season. Also, this is the third straight season that Meier has been selected First Team All-NAC. Meier was picked as NAC Rookie of the Year during his freshman campaign. He is the all-time leader in NAC history in scoring, field goals, free throws made, rebounds and steals. Freshman guard John Cording (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) was named to the All-Freshman Team while senior guard Bennett Deacon (Burlington, Wis./Catholic Central) is a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Meier was recently named Capital One Academic All-America of the Year for the College Division. It's the second year in a row that Meier is a member of the Academic All-America First Team. Meier led the Raiders in scoring (17.3 PPG), rebounding (10.7 RPG), field goals (165), field-goal percentage (.531), free throws made (108), blocks (16) and steals (86). He holds the MSOE career record for rebounds with 883. Meier is currently second among all Division III players in steals per game (3.3 per contest). He also is a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy which honors the most outstanding Division III basketball players.

In his first season with the Raiders, Cording was third on the team in assists (50) and fourth in scoring (6.4 PPG). Deacon led the Raiders with 72 assists and 40 three-pointers made and was second at 11.6 points per game, 89 field goals and 84 free throws made. He ended up second all-time in school history with 117 three-pointers in his career.

MSOE set a new school record with 19 wins during the 2010-11 season. The Raiders recorded a 12-4 conference record which put the team second in the NAC South Division and fell to Aurora 72-67 in the quarterfinals of the NAC Tournament.
