Toomey named All-USCHO Third Team

MILWAUKEE - MSOE junior goalie Connor Toomey (Burlington, Mass./South Shore Kings (EJHL)) has been named All-USCHO Third Team. This is the second national honor Toomey has received for his performance during the 2010-11 season. U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) is the premier website for college hockey coverage.

"The MSOE hockey program is proud to see Connor receiving national recognition by the USCHO," said head coach Mark Ostapina. "To be selected as one of three goalies, with all the outstanding goaltenders in both regions, is an honor Connor, his family and the MSOE hockey family will cherish forever."

Toomey was also selected to the Reebok NCAA Division III Men's Hockey All-American team. He was a Second Team pick on the West squad. The Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) Player of the Year, Toomey tied for the lead in all of Division III with four shutouts. That mark is an MSOE record for a single season. He was fifth in the nation in goals against average at 2.01. In MCHA play, Toomey led the conference with a 1.74 goals against average. His 18 wins set a new school record and tied for the fourth most in the country.

Nationally, Toomey helped the Raiders become the second best team in penalty kill situations with a rate of 89.2% (124/139). The Raiders finished the season with a 21-6-1 overall record and 16-3-1 in conference play. MSOE was ranked in the USCHO.com Division III national poll for 16 straight weeks and finished 14th in that poll.

Toomey and the Raiders begin their 2011-12 campaign Friday, Oct. 28 against MCHA rival Concordia-Wisconsin in Mequon, Wis. The next night, MSOE plays their first home game of the season as they face the Falcons once again.
