Raiders win NAC Outdoor Championship

The MSOE men's track and field took the title at this weekend's Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Championship in Lisle, Ill. The Raiders won nine events and logged 176.5 points. MSOE finished second the past two seasons after winning the championship in 2009. The Raiders also took the top spot at the NAC Indoor Championship earlier this season. First place finishers are named All-Conference and second and third finishers earn Honorable Mention.
Sophomore Jordan Werner defended his titles in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Werner ran the 100 meters in 10.95 seconds and the other dash in 22.21 seconds. Freshman Matt Waech and sophomore Chris Neja were third and fourth in the 200-meter dash. Werner, Neja, Weach and Van Alystyne won both the 4X100-meter relay and the 4X400-meter relay. The four broke their own MSOE record for the 4X100-meter relay with a time of 42.37 seconds.
Waech was first in the pole vault at 4.12 meters. Senior Kevin Diederich won the 110-meter hurdles at 15.04 seconds and also took the top spot in the long jump at 6.76 meters. Senior Brent Verhyen and Diederich were the top two finishers in the discus throw. Diederich also was second in the javelin throw with a mark of 49.80 meters.
Senior Michael Jasperson won the hammer throw at 52.12 meters. Van Alystyne came in third in the 400-meter dash at 51.00 seconds while sophomore Ben Peterson was third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:04.91.
