Raiders place second in NAC All-Sports standings

MILWAUKEE - MSOE placed second in the Northern Athletics Conference All-Sports Award standings for men's sports. Also, the Raiders finished in the top five for both men's and women's sports in the NAC Sportsmanship Awards standings. The NAC recently announced the winners for these awards for the 2010-11 academic year.

Aurora won the men's award for the fourth time in the five-year history of the league. The Spartans had an 11.17 index just ahead of MSOE's 10.81. The Raiders won conference titles in indoor and outdoor track & field and finished second in golf and tennis during the past academic year. MSOE placed third in the previous year's standings.

"Our finish in the second position speaks to our achievement in building a solid, all-around athletic program," said MSOE director of athletics Dan Harris. "This excellent performance does not take into account the second place finishes of our hockey, wrestling and men's volleyball teams in their respective conferences."

The Raiders' second place finish tied their previous highest finish which occurred during the 2007-08 school year. The All-Sports awards are based on both the final conference standings of the regular season or championship and the conference tournament finishes in the sports that offer postseason tournaments (baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball).

The NAC Sportsmanship awards went to Wisconsin Lutheran (men's) and Maranatha Baptist (women's) with the Raiders placing fourth on the men's side and fifth on the women's side.

"I am also proud of our overall level of sportsmanship displayed by our athletes and coaches as evidenced by both our men's and women's programs being chosen in the top five," Harris said.

The Sportsmanship awards were voted on by the conference's directors of athletics who could not vote for their own institution. The NAC is comprised of 13 institutions from Wisconsin and Illinois and recently completed its fifth season of competition.
