Why did you choose MSOE? Are you happy with your decision?
I chose MSOE because of its prime location. It's got that small university feel, but it's in the heart of an extremely cultured city! Not to mention, the beautiful lakeshore is just three blocks from campus--summers are splendid! I'm very happy with my decision.
What were you involved in on campus?
On campus I was the treasurer of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). In this role, the other executive board members and I plan tours of local industry. This way, our student members can get a feeling for the different career paths they can pursue after graduation. I was also involved with the Athletics Department as a member of the MSOE Men's Rowing Team. Rowing is a lot of work, but also a lof of fun. And, we got to travel to places such as Texas, Michigan and Pennsylvania to compete.
What type of scholarships did you have?
I had an MSOE Academic Scholarship, an MSOE Grant and a Presidential Achievement Scholarship.
What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was "Electromechanical Energy Conversion." It was very hands-on and we got to work with really large pieces of equipment. It's much easier to understand concepts and theories when you can actually apply them in a real working lab.
Beyond academics, what have you learned at MSOE?
MSOE has taught me that a problem can always be solved. Leaving college, I certainly still won't have the answer to everything. But MSOE has taught me HOW to find the answer to those things I don't.
What have you liked most about your MSOE experience?
I loved that I could walk into the student center and see familiar faces. I loved that I didn't have to sit at the top of a lecture hall filled with 300 other students. And, I loved that my professors had time to talk to me and actually know my name! These things combined made for a very personal learning experience so far.
What is your favorite memory of MSOE?
My favorite memory of MSOE was planning and hosting a huge bingo event in the dorms. My sophomore year I was president of the Residence Halls Association and we planned numerous fun events for students living in the dorms. This particular event was a hit, and we gave away many great prizes including a Nintendo Wii!
What are you doing since you graduated?
I started a full-time job here in Milwaukee at Milwaukee Tool Corp. I work in the advanced electronics department, helping to design tools in a new product line. Previously, I held internships in the engineering departments at both Walt Disney World and MillerCoors. I know both of these experiences set me up well for my full-time job.
