What have you liked most about your MSOE experience so far?

The amount of application done in my classes, compared to theory.

Beyond academics, what have you learned at MSOE?

I've started to understand the social structure of a workplace much better since starting here at MSOE. The only job I held before coming here was a third shift temp position, and I was the only one on my floor of the building when I was working, so worker-to-worker interactions were nonexistent.

What activities are you involved in?

MAGE and MFSO.

What's your favorite memory of where you grew up?

For one year, my dad got transferred to an Air Force base in South Dakota. That April, our area got hit with a massive blizzard (on the same weekend as my mom's birthday, no less!). I remember in the morning trying to go out the front door to survey the damage and not being able to open it against all the snow that had built up over it. After going out the back and circling around, there was a snowdrift as tall as our one-story house against the front door. Our basketball hoop had fallen over, and both of the cars were buried; only the very top of my dad's SUV was visible.  Covering the length of our street about 20 feet from our driveway was a 13 foot drift. Needless to say, school was only cancelled for a few days, but there was a lot of sledding, tunneling, and snowmen in that time.

Do you have advice for students considering MSOE?

Apply to Marquette even if you don't want to go there, MSOE will be more inclined to give you money! Seriously though, the trimester system takes a lot to get used to. Gauge whether or not you're prepared for a different schedule style where classes end faster and work needs to be done quicker.
