Kenneth Connor

Major: Software Engineering

Class: 2013

Where are you from?
I am from Deerfield, Wis.

What do you like about the SE program?
I like how the SE program teaches every aspect of software development and how it prepares you for real situations you will encounter in the workplace. I also like the fact that students start taking SE courses right away their freshman year.

Why did you choose SE as your major?
I have been interested in software since 6th grade. I taught myself a scripting language used to make simple video games. Ever since then, I was hooked. I continued to learn different programming languages. This childhood hobby has turned into a school career.

Why did you choose MSOE?
I chose MSOE because it is the best university in the area for software engineering. MSOE has one of the two accredited software engineering degrees in Wisconsin, and it has had this major since it was first created. I also chose MSOE for the small class sizes. Having a class size of around 20 students allows you to have much more personal contact with your professors, which I believe is a better learning environment.

What type of advice would you give someone who is considering attending MSOE?
I would advise someone who is considering attending MSOE to keep working hard in high school and to take any courses that are offered in the field you are looking to go into. If you are considering becoming a software engineer, take any computer courses that are available.

What do you do in your free time?
I do many things in my free time, such as participating in student organizations such as the MSOE Symphony Orchestra and Choir and the MSOE Pep Band. I also enjoy working on small personal programming projects and hanging out with my friends.
