ASTM Standards in Building Codes

  • The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world. It annually publishes more than 10,000 standards in a variety of areas, including building and construction.
  • A print copy of the 1997 ASTM Standards in Building Codes is available in the lower level of the library. The call number is: REF TA 404.5 .A45 1997.
  • The ASTM Standards in Building Codes features standards in the following subject areas: acoustical materials; adhesives; aggregates; aluminum; asbestos-cement products; appearance; bituminous materials; brick; building constructions; carbon; cement; ceramics; clay pipe and tile; concrete and concrete aggregates; copper and copper alloys; electrical conductors; electrical insulating materials; exposure; industrial fabrics; fences; fire tests; floor coverings; geotextiles; glass; gypsum and plaster; iron castings; masonry products; natural building stone; paint; pavement surfaces; plastics; roofing; security; soil and rock; steel; thermal insulating materials; water; and wood.

International Building Code

  • A comprehensive code addressing the design and installation of building systems through requirements emphasizing performance, the International Building Code establishes minimum regulations for building systems using prescriptive and performance- related provisions. The code was developed by the International Code Council, with the help of Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), and Southern Building Code Congress International (SCCCI).
  • A 2000 print version of the code is available in the library. The call number is: REF KF 3538 .I58 2000.
  • A 2012 electronic version of the code is also available via password access on the web.  Up to 5 simultaneous users can be logged in.  Email Gary Shimek for further information.

Architectural Engineering and Construction Management Print and Electronic Journals in the MSOE Library

  • The library owns over several specialized print AE and CM journal and magazine titles.
  • To search for all journals and magazines owned by the library, use either the Catalog or the In-House Periodicals Holdings List.
  • Keep in mind that, in addition to print journals, you have access to more than 70,000 electronic journals. Search the MSOE Electronic Journals A to Z List to identify these journals.  Try looking at Subjects: Technology: Building Construction for over 160 journals available online in full-text.
