Become a Peer Mentor

But before you do, let's answer a few of the more commonly-asked questions....

What Does a Peer Mentor Do?

A peer mentor is an upper-class MSOE student who has already experienced the triumphs and trials of the first year of college. These students volunteer their time to be peer mentors. Peer mentors can be good sources for information, help, and friendship. The goal is for new students and peer mentors to develop an open, friendly communication line. Each new student who enrolls in the Mentor Program will be assigned to at least one peer mentor.

When Does Peer Mentoring Take Place?

Throughout the student's entire first year at MSOE, with a special emphasis on fall quarter.

When Does the Mentoring Begin?

Mentoring begins upon the student's arrival to MSOE.

What Does the Peer Mentor Position Pay?

While the mentoring position is a non-paying one, you will receive several personal benefits. First, and most importantly, is knowing you are helping new students become a part of MSOE. You also receive great practical experience working with people and as a team. In addition, the fun you will have and the friends that you will make will provide many lasting memories.

Are There Specific Qualifications for Being a Peer Mentor?

You must be a current MSOE student in good standing (e.g. 2.0 cumulative, major, and term gpa's), be willing to work closely with a faculty or staff mentor, be available the week before classes for training and orientation, and be committed to doing outreach and maintaining contact with your mentee(s).
