Mens track and field takes first at Tri-State Tournament

The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) men’s track and field team won the Tri-State Conference Tournament with combined team score was 139, 12 points ahead of host and second place University of Concordia-Illinois.
The MSOE men were lead by two first-place finishers: Tommy Washington (Memphis, Tenn.) won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.06 seconds, .02 ahead of the second-place finisher. In the pole vault, senior Jared Amann (Round Lake, Ill.) beat senior teammate Cody Rud (Mondovi, Wis.) by 1 foot, with a vault of 13 feet.
The MSOE women’s track and field team, with a limited roster, recorded a combined team score of 109 points, to finish in second place at the Tri-State Tournament.The women’s team had three first place winners: senior Sheila Schwartz (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) outraced the field in the 5000-meter run with a time of 21 minutes, 14.38 seconds, nearly a minute faster than the second-place finisher. In the women’s long jump, MSOE junior Sara Davies (Freeland, Mich.) recorded a winning jump of 14-03.75. Freshman Lauren Halatek (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) vaulted to a tournament best of 8 feet in the women’s pole vault.
