The MSOE men’s tennis team won the conference tournament by one point, declaring it the Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) Champion. Concordia University tied MSOE but the Raiders had the one point advantage that gave them the edge over the Falcons.
In the number one singles match, MSOE freshman Ryan Fields won single-handedly over Lakeland College player Derrick Cherney. Fields was undefeated in singles play this year. David Grassl and Josh Lemke took home individual championships in the number three and number six singles matches.
In doubles, Fields and Grassl won the number two doubles matches, while Lemke and Kyle Sweet won the number three doubles.
Fields, Grassl, Lemke and Sweet were all named to the All-LMC team.
MSOE tennis improved from last year’s distant third place finish under the direction of second year head coach Larry Gagnon, who was named LMC Coach of the Year.
The conference tournament was held at Sports Core Racquet Club in Kohler, Wis.
