MSOE inducts nine members into Athletic Hall of Fame

A group of nine alumni and university supporters were inducted into MSOE’s Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 15 as part of MSOE’s Centennial celebration.
In an effort to recognize truly superior performances of athletes and the outstanding dedication of coaches and other supporters of MSOE’s athletic program, the Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1997 and 13 charter members were inducted the following year.
The evening will include a reception, dinner and program emceed by Milwaukee Bucks TV Coordinator Jim Paschke.
The inductees are:
• Chris Coffey ’92 (basketball)
• Patrick Coffey (honorary*)
• Thomas Gumpert ’82, ’90 (basketball)
• Brian R. Michalowski ’89 (basketball)
• Philip Pinkowsky (coach of track, cross country)
• Mary (Schmirler) Scherzberg ’95 (softball, volleyball)
• Michael Surfus ’86 (basketball)
• Jill Weber ’93 (softball)
• Steve Zimmerman ’80 (baseball)
Founded in 1903, MSOE is celebrating its first 100 years. MSOE is an independent university with about 2,600 students. MSOE offers 16 bachelor’s degrees in areas such as engineering, nursing, business, management information systems, technical communication, engineering technology and construction management. Graduate study includes engineering, engineering management, environmental engineering, structural engineering, medical informatics and perfusion. MSOE is home to 19 teams in men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports, competing in NCAA Division III.
