MSOE soccer player Rick Brooks was named a District Team member of the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Soccer Team. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors Of America (CoSIDA).

This marks the fourth time in MSOE history that a student-athlete has received this prestigious academic honor. Previous selections were Jeff Brezovar (basketball), a 1983 graduate; Rachel (Eggebrecht) Donnelly, a 1999 graduate; and Ryan Moren (hockey), a 2002 graduate.

Brooks garnered Academic All-America honors with a 3.82 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as an electrical engineering major. He is a two-time Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) First Team All-Conference player and the 2001 MSOE team MVP.

“This is a great honor to an athlete who personifies a stellar work ethic on and off the field,” said head coach Jimmy Banks. “I don’t think you can find a more deserving student-athlete. This is a great day for Rick and the MSOE soccer program.”

Brooks, who lives in Waukesha, Wis., is the son of Diane and Russell Brooks.

Founded in 1903, MSOE is celebrating its first 100 years. The university offers 16 undergraduate degrees in engineering, business, management information systems, communication, construction management, nursing and transfer programs in engineering technology and management. Graduate degree programs are offered in engineering, engineering management, environmental engineering, medical informatics, perfusion and structural engineering. MSOE is home to 19 teams in men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports, competing in NCAA Division III.
