The esports program at MSOE has provided sophomore Jamie Prendiville with a competitive outlet and the ability to connect with those who share similar interests.

“Joining the esports program, whether you're in the top one percent or just getting started, is a great way to meet people that are just like you,” said Prendiville. “Additionally, team play or even just having another person looking over your shoulder helps develop your skills much faster than just playing alone every day.”

Prendiville serves as team captain for MSOE’s varsity Valorant team. Valorant is a five vs. five first-person combat game. Communication with teammates is key in order to find the opposing team and win rounds, shifting from playing offense and defense.

The esports program currently operates as a club sport of MSOE athletics, but the team competes at the division one and two levels within the Wisconsin Esports Conference. The Raiders have 14 teams that play in five different video games: Valorant, Rocket League, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros. and League of Legends. They also compete in the ECAC which gives them the opportunity to play against other colleges across North America.

“Being within the esports program is a lot of fun because you can see each person's passion not just for their own game, but also passion to develop and nurture the program further.”

Prendiville is originally from Frankfort, Illinois and is majoring in computer engineering. He has always had a passion for and enjoyed coding and learning about computers. Although he is only a sophomore, he is considering graduate school after MSOE. His interests in the industry would be to work for a company focused on communications or screen-technology where his work would have a direct impact on the technology used in the day-to-day lives of people.
