Men’s hockey celebrates Gavin’s Day
The ringing of bells was in the air as the MSOE Men’s hockey team took on the Northland Lumberjacks on Nov. 13. But the bells weren’t for raising MSOE’s school spirit. They were being rung in celebration of Gavin Bugalski, son of David Bugalski, MSOE’s director of sports medicine.
Gavin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on Sept. 3, 2012. Since then, Gavin, along with his dad, his mother Dayle and little brother Owen, have been keeping their spirits high in an effort to help Gavin fight this disease. On Nov. 10, they were able to ring the bell at the hospital that indicated Gavin has completed his chemotherapy, a significant event in the fight against childhood cancer. He is now in remission and doing well.
To honor Gavin, the MSOE Men’s hockey team, along with their fans and support from the Northland Men’s hockey team, celebrated Gavin’s road to recovery. Gavin was given the duty of dropping the game puck to start the night and the crowd rang loud and long the bells they purchased in Gavin’s honor.
Congratulations Gavin and the Bugalski family! Thank you for letting the Raiders be a part of this amazing celebration.
