MSOE Club Hockey’s record-setting year locks in spot at regionals
MSOE Club Hockey had a record-setting year with the most wins in program history under the leadership of first-year head coach Shelby McPhail. The team finished the season with a record of 12-4-2 and ranked number five in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men’s D3 Pacific Region.
“I am proud of my players for achieving the number five seed in the Pacific Region,” said McPhail. “They fought hard through many challenges and never backed down. This ranking is a direct representation of the never-say-die attitude that exists in the locker room.”
McPhail accounts their success to improving their communication both on and off the ice. “Enhanced communication with each other has allowed us continued growth as a team and to minimize mistakes on the ice.”
MSOE Club Hockey’s fifth seed ranking locked them in as a regional qualifier for the first time in program history. They will go on to face eighth seed Colorado School of Mines at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 6 at the Ponds of Brookfield. The community is welcomed and encouraged to attend the game and cheer on the team. Tickets can be purchased onsite and cost $6 for a day pass or $10 for a weekend pass. A link to the online stream of the game can be found on the ACHA D3 Twitter page and on the ACHA D3 regional page.
“It has been a great first season with this program. Qualifying for regionals in the program’s second year is a benchmark achievement that even the best programs in the country would be happy with. It has taken a true team effort on all fronts to get where we are now. We are only just getting started,” said McPhail.
