In early April, the MSOE student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers hosted the annual Great Lakes Region Student Conference. Students from 19 universities participated, including Marquette, MSOE, Northwestern, Notre Dame, UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee and others. MSOE students organized the entire conference, ensuring that everything went smoothly for the more than 200 participants, advisors and judges. The main competitive events included the Concrete Canoe Competition, held at the Veteran’s Park Lagoon on the shore of Lake Michigan, and the Steel Bridge Competition, held in MSOE’s Kern Center.

Not only did the students execute a well-run conference, they performed amazingly well in all of the competitions. As a result of their stellar finishes, MSOE’s Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge teams will continue on to the national competitions later this spring.
