The fall nomination period for the DAISY Award is now open! The MSOE School of Nursing is soliciting nominations for students, faculty and staff for their third annual DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing. Two nomination periods will be held this year offering for a wider pool of applicants from both the fall and spring semesters. 

MSOE students, faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to submit their nominations now through Friday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. Visit msoe.edu/daisy-nomination to complete the nomination form. Please submit a separate nomination for faculty/staff and students. Nominators may submit more than one nomination form.

The second nomination period will open this spring followed by the DAISY Awards Ceremony held on campus on May 9, 2025, to celebrate this year’s winners. 

Criteria for the faculty/staff award is as follows:

  • Serves as a role model and mentor for professional nursing.
  • Demonstrates excellence in preparing nurses who impact society as expert practitioners, leaders, and scholars.
  • Incorporates best-educational practices into teaching.
  • Demonstrates respect for diversity of thought and mindfulness of different learning styles.
  • Facilitate learning through coaching, mentoring, and active engagement between faculty and students in the exchange of knowledge.
  • Encourages flexibility, creativity, and curiosity when working with students.
  • Facilitates clinical judgment skills through teaching, evaluation, and best practices.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates students.
  • Demonstrates interest in and respect for learners.
  • Uses personal attributes (e.g., caring, confidence, patience, integrity and flexibility) that facilitate professional growth.
  • Is fair, unbiased, and inclusive in his/her treatment of individual students.
  • Develops collaborative working relationships with students and colleagues.   

Award criteria for nominating current students is as follows:

  • Serves as a role model and mentor for peers in the MSOE School of Nursing.
  • Demonstrates excellence in care of the client in clinical, simulation, and lab experiences.
  • Demonstrates understanding of EBP as a student nurse.
  • Demonstrates cultural humility in their care of the client as a student nurse.
  • Demonstrates empathy and compassion in their care of the client as the student nurse.
  • When working with peers, demonstrates flexibility, creativity, and curiosity.
  • Demonstrates clinical reasoning and development of clinical judgement.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching clients, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates peers.
  • Demonstrates interest in and respect for peers.
  • Uses personal attributes (e.g., caring, confidence, patience, integrity and flexibility) that facilitate professional growth.
  • Is fair, unbiased, and inclusive in his/her treatment of peers.
  • Develops collaborative working relationships with peers and SON faculty and staff.

The DAISY Foundation created the DAISY Nursing Award in 1999 as a way to honor and express gratitude to nurses for the above and beyond care they provide to their patients and patients families. The award was expanded to include nurse educators in 2018 and also includes nursing students.
